Explore Skåne: From forest to cliffs and art.
The magnificent Skåne.
From forest to cliffs and art.
They say, go camping to check how suitable partners you are to each other. Kind of true, travel and camping, and anything outside the comfort zone, is a great way to see how you with the new partner or just friends/besties, will manage together in life! This was our first hiking trip together, we both have under avarage knowledge of outdoor lifestyle, only passion and soul-driven need for it, but after these 3 days, I think we passed the test better than expected, haha.
Instead waiting for Saturday morning, we left straight on friday afternoon. First stop from Malmö was Dalby Knivsåsen. A night there, and in the morning we continue travelling with skånetrafiken sommarkort to Mölle-Kullaberg. A hike around one side of coast, and then we found a place where was a sign for tents allowed. Really and true fact! We did thought if someone sees us, we just tell it was there, but those who saw us, didn't say anything. So, I guess it was a right place!
As in my title it says - magnificent Skåne, that's exactly the right word for this area. Kullaberg is something special, and I would recommend anyone to come here. Previously I had heard about it, and some Swedish-local travelers had pointed it out for me, but I had no idea no expectations that its going to be THIS AMAZING!
First stop Dalby Knivsåsen!
Leeeet's goooo! As you see, our gear is basic or almost no good gear. The only good stuff is our new tent Verve2 from Robinsons (purchased outdnorth.se) and my birthday gift from Erik, Mats, Sabina and Sofia, TRANGIA, outdoor kitchen. Oh, and the cheap, basic mattresses from outnorth.se too. We are not advanced, we just want to be more outdoors, and you don't need expensive, fancy gear.
Dalby night. This is the creepiest experience, I don't think I want to ever camp here again, but there was some weird things happening during a night, that I ended up praying to stay alive or "they" don't find our tent, haha. Seriously, some weird shit was going on, but luckily it was dark night (even if full moon) and I already had a thought to build tent under bushes!
Off to the cliffs!
The Kullabergs hiking map seems to have a very long hike distances with
far away walks, but in a reality it was not at all! We walked whole one
side of the coast from the edge until arriving in Arild. Also a little
bit of some skåneleden trail 5th path!
Good morning, sunshine!
Waking up before 5Am to see sunrise! |
Starting my new "project" - camping morning face, haha |
Hiking continues: Nimis and Arild.
In the far southwest corner of Sweden, in a nature preserve a few
kilometers northwest of the town of Arild, on a rocky beach reachable
only via boat or a strenuous 30- to 45-minute hike, is the nation of
Ladonia. You will know when you are in the nation Ladonia, because it is
marked by two monumental creative works: Nimis and Arx.
Created by artist Lars Vilks,
Nimis (Latin for “too much”) is a maze-like wooden artwork made of 70
tons of driftwood and nails and culminating in a teetering, nine-story
wooden tower. Arx (Latin for “fortress”) is a stone and concrete
sculpture resembling a melting sand castle. Nimis, the first of the two
sculptures was begun in 1980 and went unnoticed by authorities for 2
years until 1982, when they declared it would have to be destroyed.
As a means of outmaneuvering the Swedish authorities, even while
Nimis was scheduled for destruction, Lars sold it to the artist Cristo.
The legal document of the sale is a piece of driftwood, once a piece of
the artwork itself, on display at the Swedish Museum of Sketches.
Another means of avoiding government interference (or perhaps
tauntingly inviting it) was for Vilks to declare the area an independent
nation. The nation of Ladonia, occupying essentially only the area
around the sculptures, was declared in 1996 and has already had its
share of national incidents. War was declared on Ladonia by the
satirical “Armed Coalition Forces of the Internets.” Ladonia also claims
a “population” of over 15,000, though no one resides on the site as
“all of its citizens are nomads.”
Unfortunately, this was not entirely clear in the online application
form, and some 3000 Pakistanis, confused by the micro-nation’s website,
applied for immigrant status. They were granted it, as anyone who
applies is given citizenship. However, as the Pakistanis began asking
about Ladonia’s embassy and the details of how to get there, it became
clear that actually moving to Ladonia was not a possibility.

Afternoon nap in Arild before bus back to Malmö.
Arild is a small , cosy, probably expensive to get a house there, old
fishing village. I loved it! Streets fulfilled with flowers and as it’s
on a small hill, you get the nice view walking out from the park down
towards to the harbor, where we took a break and a lunch nap by the
waterside. I’m glad we spent few hours there before heading back to
“city life”. This was a luck that this weekend was full on JULY weather
not autumn! This summer we are not blessed with summer weather, so, most
of exploring trips are put away. But it is nice to get out to near by
distances too whenever the weather is not windy, freezing and raining
like in winter. But this trip, it is something unforgettable!
