EXPLORE SKÅNE // Spring cycling adventure MALMÖ - SNOGEHOLMSSJÖN

SNOGEHOLMSSJÖN - THE PINK MORNING

This was one of the most magical lake camping nights I’ve experienced in Skåne, especially with the morning sunrise casting its glow over the fog-covered lake. I had never heard of this place before—mainly because I’m more of a beach camper than a lake enthusiast. But on this bikepacking trip, my partner chose to show me one of his favorite spots in Skåne.

He used to visit this lake often during his first years living here. Fishing is his thing, and now I’ve introduced him to bikepacking—which he’s grown to love! It’s a win-win for both of us since we share a love for the outdoors. While I gravitate towards more active adventures like cycling, hiking, and long walks, he enjoys the calmer side of nature.

From what he told me, this is a very popular spot for fishermen. We saw a few nearby during the day, but by evening, we had the area all to ourselves. I didn’t get a chance to explore the trails around the lake this time, but maybe next time! I noticed on Google that the other side of the lake has a nice resting area with tables, grills, a beach, and even boat rentals.

The Snogeholm area offers such a varied landscape—lakes, sandy moors, open fields, wetlands, lush deciduous forests, and dark spruce woods. There are also marked hiking trails by Stiftelsen Skånska Landskap, so there’s plenty to explore here for nature lovers.

Hike and walk

The Skånska Landskap Foundation offers nine different marked hiking trails in Snogeholm and one of these is wheelchair friendly: the promenade by Snogeholmssjön. Download maps and map folders of Stiftelsen Skånska Landskaps hiking trails in the area. Since 2019, there are also natural works of art in the walking area through the LandArt project. The Skåneleden also passes the area.

Visitor center Snogeholm walking area

The Snogeholm Visitor Center serves as a convenient information hub, offering maps, brochures, and tips for outdoor activities across all 19 hiking areas in the region. It operates on a self-service basis and is open during the hours of Café Villa Vandra.

Please note that camping, setting up motorhomes, or lighting fires is prohibited within the Navröd Nature Reserve.

The Snogeholm area features a shorter path along Snogeholmssjön, designed for accessibility. Additionally, there are two fishing and viewing platforms, as well as three wheelchair-accessible cottages and a campground. The area is certified by Equality, ensuring inclusivity for all visitors.

Getting there by bus

Regional bus 341, Sjöbo-Blentarp-Veberöd, goes every day to several stops north of the walking area. For example, get off at "Sövde village" and follow the Skåneleden trail about 1.5 km south to the walking area. Read more in the timetable for bus 341. You can also take bus 301 Sjöbo-Ystad to Sövdeborgskrysset and then walk through the forest to the walking area. Read more in timetable for bus 301.

My cycling route

The second day we took train from Ystad back to Malmö. It costs nothing to have a bike on a train. The ride from Snogeholmsjön to Ystad seemed short, but so bumpy and hilly! I was happy to reach the coastline back to flat road. It was still a beautiful path, but then again, are there any boring roads for cycling in Skåne? Not that I know of any yet.
