EXPLORE SKÅNE // Spring cycling adventure MALMÖ - SNOGEHOLMSSJÖN

SNOGEHOLMSSJÖN - THE PINK MORNING

This was one of the most magical lake camping nights in Skane. Especially the morning sunrise with the fog over lake. I had never heard of this place because simply I am not the lake type camper, but more beach. Now this bikepacking trip my partner choose to show his favourite place in Skåne. He used to come here often in his first years living in Skåne. Fishing is his thing and now I introduced him to bikepacking, which he loves it! It's a win win situation that both of us like to be outdoors, but I like more active (cycling, hiking, long walks), he is more fond on calmer outdoor activities.

As I heard from him, its very popular fisherman spot. We did see several ones nearby us, but close to the eveving we didn't have anyone around us. I didn't get to explore the trails around lake this time, maybe another time as I saw on google that the other side of lake has nice resting area with tables, grills and beach, and can hire boats.

In Snogeholm area you will encounter a varied landscape with lakes, sandy moors, open fields, wet marshes, sheer deciduous forest and dark spruce forest. There are the Stiftelsen Skånska Landskaps  marked hiking trails.

Hike and walk

The Skånska Landskap Foundation offers nine different marked hiking trails in Snogeholm and one of these is wheelchair friendly: the promenade by Snogeholmssjön. Download maps and map folders of Stiftelsen Skånska Landskaps hiking trails in the area. Since 2019, there are also natural works of art in the walking area through the LandArt project. The Skåneleden also passes the area.

Visitor center Snogeholm walking area

The visitor center Snogeholm hiking area serves as an information point with maps, brochures and tips on outdoor life in all 19 hiking areas. Self-service prevails. The visitor center is open in connection with Café Villa Vandra's times.

Remember that you are not allowed to camp, set up a motorhome and light a fire in the nature reserve Navröd.

There is a shorter path along Snogeholmssjön that is adapted for accessibility, as well as two fishing and viewing platforms. Three cottages and a campground are wheelchair accessible. The area is certified by Equality.

Getting there by bus

Regional bus 341, Sjöbo-Blentarp-Veberöd, goes every day to several stops north of the walking area. For example, get off at "Sövde village" and follow the Skåneleden trail about 1.5 km south to the walking area. Read more in the timetable for bus 341. You can also take bus 301 Sjöbo-Ystad to Sövdeborgskrysset and then walk through the forest to the walking area. Read more in timetable for bus 301.

My cycling route

The second day we took train from Ystad back to Malmö. It costs nothing to have a bike on a train. The ride from Snogeholmsjön to Ystad seemed short, but so bumpy and hilly! I was happy to reach the coastline back to flat road. It was still a beautiful path, but then again, are there any boring roads for cycling in Skåne? Not that I know of any yet.
