The beautiful walk by the sea

Skåneleden Ales stenar- Skillinge

I suggested that we could take the Skåneleden path by the sea for this weekend. We should enjoy more the sea because the summer ends quickly in Skåne / Sweden. A beach atmosphere inspires and gives much more positive energy for both of us. We are people who definitely feel better when near the sea. I like the woods and mountains, too, if I have to have my favourite… well, it is the beach. All people, who like to be in nature, have their better nature scene places and adventures they prefer. Some people like a river or lake, or sea, or to be deep in the woods or maybe jungle. I liked our Brösarp hike in the woods, but, yes, I noticed after this weekend I felt more positive and full of energy after the “beautiful hiking by the sea”. Sea atmosphere charges me up.

We went to one of the Skåne’s beautiful old towns Ystad by train from Malmö. There we had some extra time to walk around Ystad. We were waiting for the bus # 322. The bus does not run often, even in summer, but it is the most popular bus in the summer which runs until Ales stones -Kåsaberg. Ales Stones are Sweden’s ancient magical stone ruin site. The experience is amazing. You can see the sea meets the sky! I have been at Ales stones only during daytime, but I think it is a magical experience during sunset or sunrise!

At Kåsaberg we ate lunch. He tried and wanted a herring burger, I had a salmon burger. We did not choose the best restaurant, so, next time thought we should try to eat at some other nicer restaurant as the prices were not so different. After lunch, we began our Skåneleden adventure! This Skåneleden path we walked (Stage 2: Nybrostrand - Löderup beach), but as you see, we started from Ales Stones, not Nybrostrand. It was beautiful to walk by the sea. At Löderup beach changed path to the forest path. (Here, look at Skåneleden path.)

Skåneleden came out near the “Dag Hammarskjöld Backåkra” a meditation place. It is Backåkra Nature Reserve (click). There goes Skåneleden by Hagestad Nature Reserve (not at the beach, just through the woods). We liked this path, Skogan was small and had a pleasant forest smell. It smelled so fresh perhaps because it had been raining before us there.

Later we came out from the woods on the way to the Sandhammaren beach. I did not know Sandhammaren beach to be so, so, so very very beautiful! We had a break before the beach at the tourist information place where we read about the oldest lifeboat in the North, built in 1855 (we were not in a hurry that we did not know we are near to such a heavenly beach). That was interesting. I took several photos too, but I began to feel that I am a little tired. So far we had eaten a lot of wild raspberries and blueberries in the forest, and I was looking forward to eating our new hiker/camper package food we just had bought at the NaturaKompaniet shop!

When we were close to the beach, I was so excited! It was at 7pm and as it was a really hot day, many people were still at the beach. I could not believe how beautiful it was! I was glad we choose this path! I wanted to stay and wander no more, but we have the rule that we always wander until at 9pm.  I asked if we can come back one day in the future? It was so beautiful …. I enjoyed it a lot, and I forgot that I was a bit tired. Everything that I dreamed about this night was our camping spot and I was swimming in the sea later …. Later … 9pm … We did not know that our dream of Sandhammaren beach was only a dream! We wandered too far and could not find a nice camping spot near the beach when there is no ugly and dark seaweed which smelled soooo bad, and I could not swim. The sea does not look as beautiful as before at Sandhammaren beach. I was very tired, so my mood was not good, because I also was hungry! :) Of course, we fixed the situation and we had a nice night at the beach.

The next day we woke up when we heard people coming to the beach. We slept longer, it is best that in the nature you do not need an alarm clock … The same thing that always - breakfast, clearing the camp and packing of bags and swimming too! Maybe my idea or goal was that we could try to hike to Simrishamn, so we started to walk on Skåneleden. It was not certain plan, but a maybe plan. We like to see how to it goes and how we feel. We wandered through the small fishing village of Skillinge. In Skillinge we bought lunch from a local food store. Later around the corner, we found a cozy coffee shop called Coffee Chapel manor house. It was nice! After coffee, we had a plan to take the bus and go back Malmo. We found the bus location, and we noticed that there is only one bus line - # 322 running to Ystad, not to Simirshamn. It was clear that it’s not easy to live in the countryside, because you need a car and it costs a lot and it is not pleasant for the environment, but “that’s life!” some would say.

Before we arrived in Malmö, we decided to have a swim at the Ystad beach. Bus Location: Jaktpaviljongen # 322. The beach was full of people as well as it was a hot day, but not many people swam! I was the only person who swam for a long time, all the other people just came inside the sea quickly and ran out quickly too! I thought it’s not that cold water! Yes, it is not warm, but not too cold. It is good for a man’s health! I enjoyed my swim half an hour swim and being the only one.
Later we take Skåneleden path back to Ystad. We arrived in Malmo at 19 or 20, but we felt so good after this walk white sea that we fall asleep fast! We again had hiked around 25-29km! That’s our normal now for a two day camping, but usually it is one day when we do around 20km, and the next day little bit as we only have a weekend to hike. But it is a good start to get used to walking.
